Video niacin and cholesterol

3D animation on the effect of niacin on cholesterol: lowering LDL cholesterol, Lp (a) and triglycerides and increasing HDL cholesterol.

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance found in the human body and plays an important role in metabolism. HDL transports cholesterol from the tissues to the liver, where it is broken down and removed from the body. A high level of HDL cholesterol is considered protective against cardiovascular disease, which is why it is often referred to as “good” cholesterol. LDL cholesterol transports cholesterol to tissues and organs and can be deposited in arteries, increasing the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and cardiovascular disease, which is why it is also called “bad” cholesterol.

Niacin, also known as vitamin B3, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays an important role in the body’s metabolism. In terms of cholesterol, niacin works by lowering the level of “bad” LDL cholesterol while increasing the level of “good” HDL cholesterol. This helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The animation shows the different roles that LDL and VDL cholesterol play in the body. It shows how nicain is absorbed by the gastric mucosa after ingestion and how it raises the level of HDL cholesterol while lowering LDL cholesterol.
