Film spinal anaesthesia

Explanatory film for information on the course and risks of spinal anesthesia for a surgery.

Medical 3D animation to inform patients about the procedure and risks of spinal anesthesia.

By injecting a local anesthetic into the spinal canal (cerebrospinal fluid space) at the level of the lumbar spine, the transmission of signals in the nerves emanating from the spinal cord is inhibited. As a result, large areas of the body – such as the legs, pelvis or lower abdomen – can be anaesthetized in a short time with relatively few side effects.

The patient remains fully conscious. Compared to general anesthesia, spinal anesthesia places less strain on the body. It is preferred for patients with cardiovascular problems, for example.

Spinal anesthesia is used, for example, for gynecological and urological operations, but also for operations on the lower extremities (legs). Spinal anesthesia is a standard procedure for caesarean sections in obstetrics.
