Craniosynostosis is a condition where one or more of the sutures (joints) between the bones of an infant’s skull fuse prematurely, before the brain has finished growing. This can cause the shape of the head to become distorted as the skull compensates for the areas of the head that can’t expand normally. The skull bones may also press on the brain, which can cause developmental problems or other health complications.
