Illustration tracheostomy tube cross section

Illustrations of cross-section through tracheal tubes in blocked and unblocked states.

Design of three illustrations of a cross-section through tracheal tubes during a tracheostomy. The graphics schematically shows the trachea and esophagus in a sectional view in the transverse plane. A small detail window shows the exact position of the section plane.

The first illustration shows a cuffed (blocked) tracheal tube: the inflated cuff (balloon) presses against the wall of the trachea and closes it. The other two illustrations show an unblocked (uncuffed) tracheostomy tube, with the diameter of the tube being different.
