Design of medical graphics for gastroesophageal reflux disease and achalasia. Three degrees of severity were illustrated for achalasia (stage I - hypermotile form - stage II - hypomotile form - stage III - amotile form). In gastroesophageal reflux disease, stomach acid enters the esophagus because the sphincter between the stomach and esophagus does not work properly. The illustrations are based on a sectional view through head and torso by illustrator Heike Blum.
