Animations Tunica media in arterial hypertension

Animation of an arterial hypertension due to a median hypertrophy.

Design of a 3D animation about the effect of high blood pressure on the tunica media in the vessel wall. The tunica media is one of the layers in the walls of blood vessels (especially arteries). In arterial hypertension (high blood pressure), the tunica media thickens in response to sustained elevated blood pressure. The artery becomes less elastic and has a reduced lumen (interior space of the blood vessel). This can impair arterial function and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
