Illustration dissertation colorectal surgery

Design of an illustration for a dissertation on the treatment of a colorectal anastomosis using an endo sponge.

Background:

In a rectal resection (proctectomy), the metastatic part of the intestine is removed and the colon is sutured to the rectal stump. One side of the colon is connected to the rectal stump, creating a small replacement reservoir that partially takes over the function of the rectum.

Project description:

The illustration shows the treatment of a colorectal anastomosis using an Endo-Sponge. The sponge is placed over the suture connecting the rectum and colon and drains fluids via an anal drain after the procedure.
