Background:
Congenital vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is a condition in which urine flows from the bladder back into the ureters and sometimes even into the kidneys. It is caused by a congenital developmental anomaly of the transition between the ureter and bladder.
A patient with VUR often feels pain when urinating. If left untreated, VUR can lead to recurrent urinary tract infections, as bacteria from the lower urinary tract can easily enter the upper urinary tract. In more severe cases, surgery may be necessary.
Project description:
The illustration shows the treatment of vesicoureteral reflux. A non-degradable filler is injected into the transition area between the ureter and bladder. This filler prevents urine from flowing back from the bladder into the ureter.
