Illustrations evaluating spine range of motion

Designing illustrations visualizing the mobility of a healthy human spine: flexion, extension and rotation.

Background:

The mobility of the spine results from the interaction of many small segments of movement. The range of motion in a single segment is small, but when taken together across the entire spine, it results in a large range of motion.

Project description:

For a training app developed by Aesculap AG, we created a series of illustrations on anatomy and spinal disorders.

The first illustration shows the rotation of the spine in a seated patient (to minimize compensatory movements originating from the pelvis).

The second illustration shows extension (bending the upper body and spine backward) and flexion (bending the upper body forward).
