Background:
The emission characteristics of laser fibers in medicine are crucial for the effectiveness and safety of laser-based treatments. It refers to the way the laser light emerges from the fiber and interacts with the tissue.
Laser fibers are designed to emit light in a controlled pattern. The emission pattern depends on the type of fiber. The way in which the energy of the laser beam is distributed in the tissue influences the treatment results. The spot size, i.e. the diameter of the laser beam, has a direct impact on treatment accuracy and the depth of tissue interaction. Smaller spots enable more precise interventions, while larger spots achieve a more extensive effect.
The beam behavior is also closely linked to the type of tissue being treated. Different tissues absorb laser light differently, which influences the efficiency of the treatment. The radiation behavior also influences the thermal effects that occur in the tissue. Excessive energy output can lead to unwanted thermal damage, while controlled output helps to protect the target tissue.
Project description:
For a new product brochure from CeramOpetc, we designed illustrations of various laser fibers from the company’s portfolio. In addition to the appealing presentation of the fibers, the focus was on the visualization of the different radiation characteristics of the products.
3D models of the fibers were created for the illustrations, with a particular focus on the design of the fiber tips. Their design is essential for the different radiation behavior of the fiber types, as the laser light is emitted in a different form depending on the design.
In addition to a side fiber (lateral emission), a bare fiber with a frontal cone-shaped emission, a ring fiber (circular emission) and a diffuse fiber with a large-area cylindrical emission were illustrated.
Project details laser fibers for brochure.
