Illustrations anatomical planes

Illustrations explaining the definition of anatomical planes. These allow for the precise description of the location of body structures.

Background:

To clearly describe the location and relationships of body structures, imaginary flat planes of section through the human body are used.

Project description:

For an e-learning app developed by Aesculap AG, we created a series of illustrations on anatomy and spinal disorders. The illustrations shown here focus on the definition of the (major) body planes, which can be used to clearly describe the location of anatomical structures or possible planes of section.

These anatomical planes are imaginary planes which are perpendicular (orthogonal) to one another. The transverse plane runs horizontally and divides the body into upper and lower halves. The frontal plane runs from side to side and divides the body into front and back. The sagittal plane runs from front to back and divides the body into left and right sides.
