In an overview illustration, the figure shows an inflamed wound of the skin. In a detailed illustration, the cell membrane of a bacterium can be seen at the top, and the membrane of an epidermal cell at the bottom. Tyrocidin attaches to the cell membrane of the bacterium and destroys it. Gramicidin forms cation-selective channels through the cell membrane of the bacterium and damages it.
