3D animation Thulium fiber laser “Duster”

Background:

Thulium fiber lasers (TFL) are a special type of laser in which light pulses are generated by semiconductor lasers (diodes) and coupled into a long optical fiber. Such lasers typically operate in the infrared range, often at a wavelength of around 1940 nm, depending on the specific properties of the laser.

In surgery, it is used particularly in urology, for example to remove kidney stones, but also in the treatment of prostate enlargement. Its strength lies in its ability to precisely remove and cut tissue without causing excessive damage to surrounding tissue.

Project description:

We created a 3D animated product video for Biolitec’s new thulium fiber laser “LEONARDO™ Duster.” In addition to communicating the device’s key features, the 3D animation focused on unveiling the laser as a new product and providing appealing visualization.

The video begins with a black screen—details of the device are gradually revealed through focused lighting. After the device is turned on, it is fully unveiled and its key features are presented.

The first topic of the film is the wavelength used, which is 1940 nanometers (advantages include high absorption in water, low penetration depth, and rapid coagulation of blood vessels).

The second topic discusses the advantages of the treatment, namely the rapid dissolution of the stone (dusting) and the low retropulsion force acting on the stone (which reduces the stone’s tendency to slip away during treatment). Next, the device’s simple handling via a touch display is demonstrated and its power supply via a standard power outlet is visualized.

In a comparative scene, the device is opposed to a commercially available holmium laser to convey that the Duster laser is significantly smaller due to its design and emits less heat and noise.

Finally, the range of available fibers is discussed and Biolitec’s core competence in the field of laser and laser fiber technology is examined.
